I grew up with two passions: the cello and theatre. At age 18 I had to make the choice of which I was going to pursue professionally, and it was definitely theatre. It's so encompassing of the whole person and exposes you to raw humanity in the most visceral way. What I love most about acting is you have no choice but to live in the moment! I was really lucky to score the lead in a TV movie based on an excellent theatre script while still at drama school ('Strafmuendig'). A year later we won two awards for this film, and I received a special award for acting the lead (Adolf-Grimme Preis 1985). This meant that I had plenty of work offered to me in TV and got to take leads in two other films in the following year. I then did two years of theatre before exploring and travelling the world... and ended up married in NZ! No livelihood in acting here - the cello had to step in! But now, after the children have left the nest, I am loving getting back to my first passion!
