My name is Philip Christian Te Whata. I am Maori. I grew up in Mangere South Auckland. My family never had much. We never owned a car whilst I grew up. However, I learnt how to appreciate the things I do have in my life. Since I was a child I was a creative thinker. I looked at the world perhaps differently from most others. In 2012 Auckland University of Technology awarded me the highest grade for creative writing and offered me a place to complete my masters degree. My parents taught me the value of respecting others no matter their color, ethnicity or background. Today I am happily married to an Indian born woman whom I love dearly.
